I have removed a double sink unit from the boat as it was hiding some rotten ply. The worktop is a long piece of grey laminate about 8 feet long and I am not in the mood to replace the whole thing as it would require a lot of dismantling of trim etc.

So I am thinking of building a sink plinth to avoid further damage but to properly support the double sink and have the benefit of tipping it a little as currently the sink does not always drain properly. Overall Size would be 700mm x 355 although cut pieces of strip could be cut together and glued too to make a frame.

For material I was thinking first of epoxied ply and then I drifted towards a corian type resin and wondered if the clever boys that cut regular double sinks into these work tops have offcuts, as a domestic double cutout would more than do me. I can then router it and provide drain backs etc.

Any advice and any contact? I have been browsing the web for a while now

Cheers from Frosty France

The resin type worktops I have seen made are moulded to size and shape with cutouts already in, so you don't get offcuts.

Took a while to dig it out. I need to pull out my full text and put it on the website in its full format as PBO will often strip details out to make it 'fit' (My deck painting writeup was some 8k words, the poor editor had to trim it down to 3k words to fit!).

Edit: Just re read your post - you are not replacing the whole lot, just the plinth! Apologies, need to get better at RTP!

I needed to do a similar thing to the heads. Found a local supplier of 'Corian' type worktops who happened to have an offcut of the right colour, although he had to get the correct bowl. Made a lovely job of it. The old Formica type top needed a bit of surgery with a jigsaw, then I jut dropped the new one in with Sikaflex to make it stick.

Warning- it is not a cheap option.

Thanks to all for feedback so far, very useful indeed and Mark I have to say what a piece of craftsmanship you have completed! Given my expertise at cutting twice and gluing three times !!! I am in awe

Thanks also to blowingoldboots for the pm, seriously appreciated

Here's to summer!
