Having decided to replace the mildewed sealant around most of the heads fixtures including panels should I be going for a marine rubberised sealant such as the 3M 4000 or just a standard silicone with high elasticity? The original sealant is very rubbery which causes my query. Grateful for any thoughts.

Over more than 20 years Evode have largely unnoticed marketed a quite outstanding product under numerous names. It was once "Superior to Silicone" available in white or brown, then for many years "Nail and Seal" and more recently "Evo-Stick Seriously Strong Stuff"only in white, available in B&Q, Wickes etc.

None of the names do it justice. I've bought scores of tubes of it over the years and it will stick almost anything to almost anything else, remains rubbery for ever and is endlessly waterproof. I stuck a patch over an underwater hole in a rubber pond liner in 1998 and it's still there hanging on like a limpet in full sunlight. I've built a battery box with it, stuck to the hull with no other support housing a 40 lb battery in the foc's'le for the past 13 years with all the load that that implies.

My only fear is that one day they'll just stop making it.
