Returning from Swanage on Saturday afternoon I came across for the first (and hopefully for the last ) time the rescue services in action in Studland Bay. Not sure exactly what had happened but both the the AWB and ILB were on hand and Whisky Bravo had already lowered the winchman onto the boat with the casualty.

Listening in on CH16 very impressed with the professionalism of Solent Coastguard, AWB skipper and Whiskby Bravo as they coordinated lift off the casualty, and the skill of the pilot as the casualty and winchman were lifted off at 10 knots.

How fortunate we are to have such superb rescue services. I had been sitting on renewal of my Offshore sub - but have now posted off my cheque.

Sorry no pics as camera not onboard -will always take it in future.

Understand that casualty will be OK.

I never ceased to be amazed at the rescue service's abilities - and primarily funded through charity! I gather they wouldn't want it any other way.
THree cheers to them all.

Not that old chestnut again. Bristows (a private firm) have run some of the coastguard helicopters (including India Juliet) for years already....

I haven't seen anything substantive other than the usual wringing of hands about any change. Certainly nothing that says you'll get charged for an airlift when you headbutt the boom on Sunsail 27, or surface too fast from your dive....

Sorry but my opinion of the RNLI has gone down since their last minute withdrawal of their objection to the propsed new bridge at Poole, during the public enquiry on 2005.

Anyone who knows the area will know that the operation of two bridges in tandem will cause significant safety issues. So it seems the RNLI are less interested in safety than 'other considerations' when it comes to the crunch. By RNLI I mean their management, of course, not the brave souls who do the rough and difficult job.

Sorry Rick, I know this is an old chestnut as well /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
