HM Coastguard is searching for a man reported to have gone overboard from a vessel near Margate, Kent.
It received a call from the boat shortly after 05:40 GMT.
The search and rescue operation involves RNLI lifeboats, a police boat, and a Royal Navy vessel - as well as a helicopter.
It is not clear whether the incident is related to conditions caused by Storm Dennis.

A body has been found in the search for a man who fell from a fuel tanker off the coast of Kent
A coastguard helicopter, a Royal Navy warship and RNLI lifeboats had joined the operation around Margate Harbour.
Authorities were alerted at 05:40 GMT to reports the man had gone overboard from a liquid petroleum gas tanker that was anchored off the harbour overnight, before Storm Dennis hit.
A body was found in the water at about 13:00 after a seven-hour search in "very rough seas", the coastguard said.
