Request for weather forecasting advice

I'm finding that the ECMWF grib files I'm downloading are accurate in terms of timing, but are lacking the granularity to warn of localised storms. Someone suggested using IR satellite images (available on windy.com, but then clammed up when I asked how to interpret them. Can anyone here advise?

Depends on how in-depth you want to go, and what level of understanding you've got at the moment

I recommend Meted as a very useful resource in general.

Two courses that might help are:

and
Basic Satellite Imagery Interpretation


However, that site has a huge number of courses and resources, so I'm sure you'll find something that covers your needs.
