We are in Mallorca at the moment and use a 6kg Repsol gas canister (which is now empty and SWMBO is being dispatched by taxi to refill because of her superior language skills). I have successfully in the past (wil SWMBO has) swapped Portuguese Repsol canisters (the fancy plastic ones) for Spanish ones.

Does anyone know what the setup is in italy (specifically Sardinia and Sicily)?

Yes. One is the English language name and the other is the Spanish language name. Bit like Munich and Munchen. Or Moscow and Moskva. Or Bombay and Mumbai.

Odd thing is that the BBC feel compelled to use the foreign language name in some cases but not others. Thus Peking is now always Beijing but they would never use Munchen and never call Holland Nederland.

A quick google search will exchange to Mallorca rather than Essex typ Majorca. Question: Is it Mallorca or Majorca?
What is the correct spelling - Mallorca or Majorca? And how should it be pronounced?"full reply follows"
Answer:
Both spellings are correct: (but put wrong spelling into a flight booking, auto corrects)..
Mallorca is Spanish and Catalan. It is also acceptable in English according to most dictionaries. It is pronounced 'Mah-york-a', never 'Mah-lork-a'.
Majorca is English. Despite it making you sound like you come from Essex, it can be pronounced 'Mah-jork-a', but 'Mah-york-a' is acceptable too. Though the latter pronunciation fits English phonetics better, pronouncing it 'Mah-jork-a' can come across as ignorant (even though it is officially correct - use it to show off if you like!).

Trecked up the hill, got the gas and would genuinely appreciate knowing whether to replace here or if repsol is not available in Sardinia/Sicily? ,

There was an LPG (for cars and small wagons) depot on the main ring road around Cagliari heading past the hospital towards Sant Elena/Capitana, that used to fill any bottle you gave them. If you are in/near Marina Del Sole, ask For Dave on Brumby who came with me when we found it, he may remember where it was (2008/9) I can't remember what it was called, but they charged you by the weight/liters used, the same price as on the forecourt.
