Report/Search for stolen outboard

Stolen outboard

Yes and I regret having to do that. But I had to pay for the website to be built, hosting, advertizing etc. Add hundreds of hours I spend trying to get insurance co's, police dept's and pawn shops to submit the serial numbers and it's quite labor intensive.

Hopefully I'll recover my investment and make it like 50 cents a search.

There are some huge cash rewards being offered so maybe it will turn into a treasure hunt.

Thanks for putting in ALOT of effort to create a site to help deter theft!!!(I'm not being sarcastic) but...

if i'm buying a secondhand O/B and want to be a good citizen it will cost me money to check if it was stolen? If it was free i would be more likely to do this check, report the "seller" and reunite the O/b with the owner. would it be better to charge for registering the stolen outboard as the benefit of finding the o/b will be for the original owner? Also you note that there are rewards so looks like owners are willing to pay a certain amount.

Again, thanks for the effort and hope this leads to some solved crimes. Also appreciate you anticipate reducing the fee as u recover costs. Well done!

I strongly considered both sides of this coin. Should I charge the victim who's already lost an asset or the person who's considering buying "a" motor or better yet make everything free.
As a retired person (yacht broker) who like so many has had their 401's slaughtered I wanted only enough to recover my cost to have the site built and hosted as well as covering the cost of the "adword advertizing" which is an ongoing expence. Adword cost about $180.00 a month
I'm really torn on this because I am and have always been a boater. Currently I have a 192 DC Sailfish and a 40 ft. trimaran sailboat. I merely want to help other boaters who have been victimized by scum who steal outboards.
I changed the cost to do a serial number search from $2.99 to $1.99.
My feeling is- heck, you pay this much for a cup of coffee.
The other way to make it free is to go with paid advertizing on my web site. Maybe get some folks who sell new and used outboard motors will sign up for that. But until I start getting bunches of hits each day they won't be interested.
I am very much interested in comments and suggestions.
