It was all a bit of an anti-climax. Wife and skipper and I duly turned up in Singapore to find the boat wasn't nearly as far finished as the first one we saw there last year, no one had thought to suggest to us that we should have come out a couple of weeks later. Some kit had been fitted which wasn't up to spec. not only was it not up to GB's spec it wasn't even up to the manufacturer's spec. So instead of admiring a finished boat and having a week's worth of handover we spent out time wondering why the hell we had just spent 14 hours at the tender mercies of British Airways. To give GB their due, they are paying for our skipper to fly back out there in a few weeks time; they are sending an engineer to the UK for the handover, and they have sent someone to the USA to sort out the defective kit problem. But to us one unfinished boat looks like any other unfinished boat. The plus side of this is that I could see how well the beast is built because I could poke around places that other owners never see.
The sea runs went well clipping around 23kts. and you really can't feel her turn, even back over her own wash and she is quiet, even at full revs. She is a brilliant boat and I am looking forward to her arrival in Southampton even though it may be a week or two later than anticipated.
Digi pics? I don't DO digi pics and I forgot to do any of the old fashioned kind.
of course, a half finished boat is absloot paradise to me. I love seeing it in bits, saving me trouble of unscrewing things to see how they work. BUT JohnR is quite right to want it all nice and sorted. BUT there again I love seeing the warts and oho is that how they do it aha well we could have nice cupboard there.
Mostly it sounds not too shabby at all? Tho not finished quite, doors-wise and etc? The only mistake was ...taking the wife. Where are the cushions? the carpet? THE CUTLERY?? and are there any drinks in the fridge? Pah!!....
Does'nt sound like a wasted trip, John. You poked around the bowels of the boat which as tcm says is always interesting and you nipped the defective kit problem in the bud - I guess that would have been a lot more hassle after the boat was delivered
I take it all Forum members are invited to launch party in Southampton? No, ok just keep us updated on progress!
Now how did you guess that the wife on seeing 32+ men working on the boat and no sign of the upholstery suggested that maybe a Bayliner 64 myght be a good alternative?
The real bummer about a launch party in Southampton is that I have a feeling that some guys from MBY will be invited down and there is no way we want to mix with them is there?
