Apropos previous post, I went to see this boat last Saturday with my brother. He liked it, made offer, accepted, and contract signed yesterday and deposit paid. Also surveyor spent all day today on it, has a bit more to do but just called to say it is in excellent nick, nothing to worry about. Hurrah!

Now come on Learner, here's a challenge, put away Excel and see if you can get to binding contract within 5 days of the next boat you see!

It's in Coleraine, N Ireland. We have to sail it to the Clyde (Kip Marina- where's Nick Robinson these days?). Is that an easy trip in December or Jan or should I be scared? Haydn you must have done it a bit?

Tell your brother he's a lucky b#####d, looks a gem of a boat.

If he ever brings it down south tell him to look me up. How far is it from NI to where it's going? If he needs a spare diver sometime I could be tempted...............................

Dont know where Coleraine is, never heared of it. Some where round Belfast I presume. Theres a bit of a nasty sea area between IOM and Port Patrick. Not to be messed with. Mind you we were in a P33 at the time. But it is renown for knocking over bigger than you've got. Should be no problem at all as long as you pick suitable weather. Theres not alot of distance involved. Port Patrick might be tricky to get your size of boat into the first time. Very narrow entrance between two rocks and the current goes quite fast past the entrance. Net result is, you face about 45d to the entrance and crab in. Line up the orange mark on the harbour wall and one on the corner of the house up the street!! Troon would be the first easy, decent place to stop. But consider Cambeltown.
Never actualy been from Ireland to Scotland. But have been from IOM which is only about twenty odd miles off Ireland.
If Coleraine is lower down Ireland. (Cant be much. UnLess on other side) All east coast of Ireland is a doddle. Though do decide which side of the sandbank you want to be on! Thats more down south though. Course you need to look on the charts. Mines on the boat so just going off memory. A pilot book would help. Ney imperative. Just found mine here. It says. Do not attempt the Mull of galloway in southwest winds above F4 also do it at slack water. Of course you should be crossing from further West so maybe a bit better. But treat with caution. Cant help much more without chart. But got the Pilot book so can help with stop offs.

It's a "poseidon 52" by Aberdour Marine. They're a small time bespoke Scottish builder of olde. No, I hadn't heard of them either. The hull is by Tyler, who make RNLI hulls. It was built by the owner of Aberdour Marine for himself.

Full spec on http://www.williamsandsmithells.co.uk. Click on power brokerage and then it's the third one down. Pretty good interior pics on there.

Re: Green-eyed Monster

Eek. That surveyor is letting you down badly. Fire him?

We got lucky. The boat was fabulous. Normally they are worse in the flesh than the pics, but this was better. The owner has been v helpful. The surveyor came out at 3 days notice, and found all well.

Would have liked beer in WC2 ish tonite, TCM was around for one too. Next week praps?

Manic router operator!

It's in Coleraine which is N Coast of NI, drive NW from Belfast till get to the coast, by Giants causeway. The boat is going to live in Tobermory/Clyde/Mull of Kintyre Country, but will be in Kip Marina Glasgow for this winter. I guess the delivery trip to Kip is 80miles but I haven't looked. I dont know that patch of sea at all but will now study it a bit. I will try to persuade him to bring it to S Coast in the Summer, esp W Country, so will find you then, and borrow some WPs off you for divesites please!

For diving trips he plans to tow his 6m RIB and dive off that. We'll see how it goes and decide whether to fit hydraulic platform as discussed before.

It's a fantastic boat, I was massively impressed when I saw it. Like walking around 5 bed house inside. 33 tons. Owner is a serious boater, retired, spends loads of time getting it perfect. Example: it has teak decks but for some reason the teak strips are the usual 50mm wide ish but the black caulking is very narrow, perhaps 2mm. He didn't like it aesthetically, so he had the boatyard clamp straight edges on the deck and cut the 2mm grooves out to 4mm using a router, then recaulked and sanded. This is taking 50 hours and costing £££. He was 3/4 way through this when we visited, and the decks will look new. Is this a manically fastitious owner or what? Really nice chap though, a real gent and helping us out by explaining all the detail of the boat and machinery, instead of just taking the £££ and running.

Coleraine is on the very top of N Ireland, sort of drive NW from Belfast till you hit the coast. By giants causeway, also where the Irish Distillers distillery is located. Delivery trip will be to Kip on the Clyde; I dont know this patch so need to study charts and buy pilot book etc. Where's blast from the past Nick Robinson when I need him?

Re: Green-eyed Monster

1) Trouble is with surveyor is ( as you can see from dates) incommunicado , and has my dosh, until 25th .. so a little hairy.
2) Luckily dodgy eyetie agent not available to talk today ( probably doubles as sewer rat) .. deal may be A1 still

3) Yes..not going to SoF due storms and airline pax backlog....would have killed beer but now chez Sarf Chelsea

4) Next week beer definite as Major Rugby Game next weekend so no SoF

Take Care

Re: sharks and sewer rats

They really are sharks, taking £££ and then b*ggering off. Our surveyor has done the job without even being paid yet!

Yes, will try to do beer next Friday. You are WC2 ish aren't you? I'm Aldwych. Anyone else around?

Hairy ars#d divers

Shouldn't really say this but tell your bro that he doesn't want hairy ar##d divers messing up his new toy, they're all careless so and so's, insist they sleep on the RIB, they'll probably feel more at home there! (Except of course from me, that is).

I've sent Nick an email. Hang on a minute, I'll see if he's replied. "Oh yes he has" So sent message back.

Watch this space!!

To Nick.
Never mind all that rubbish, your services are required. JFM's brother has bought an enormous boat in N Ireland and is bringing it to Kip. Wants to know how to get there!! Well you know what I mean. That bit of sea can be quite bad, specialy in the winter..
So get off yer arse and come and sort him out.

Haydn
