Replacing spinnaker uphaul

Replacing spinnaker halyard

Morning one and all.

My current halyard is a combination of rope and wire spliced together, but the wire element is now dangerous to use as it is unravelling.
Should I be replacing like with like? (ie advantages/disadvantages?) or replace with what?

Thoughts/advice please.

Hi assume you mean the halliard, i have never heard of that combo for a pole uphaul.
braid on braid is ok for a spi as minimal stretch is not a problem.
if you mean a head sail halliard when cruising braid on braid, racing dyneema

You need to make sure your replacement rope is happy on the mast sheave. Wire may have had a narrow sheave and may have sharp edges.

I have that for a pole up haul

Its old I keep meaning to change it either low stretch polyester or cruising Dynema...
