replacing Sadler 25 fuel tank

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience of replacing the fuel tank in a Sadler 25? Having eliminated filter problems by replacement, in what looks like an intermittant fuel starvation problem on a new Yanmar 1GM10, the next step is bypassing the fuel tank (original by the look of it, stainless steel) if that solves the problem the tank may have to go.

My question, it looks very tight to get at, has anyone successfully got them out, any tips or (hard) lessons learned?

Curiously I had a similar problem with my 25 - at least air in the fuel - same engine but not new.

This was a long saga best not gone into here but at one point I did consider removing the tank to empty and clean it. I found that although the tank was not actually glassed in there was no way it was coming out without cutting out bits of boat. It had gone in either before the deck was bonded or through the end of the cockpit locker before that was fitted.

Having said all of that my boat is'nt a Sadler built one - its a later Andy Middleton example - your's may be different?

I think you should find though that the tank is actually higher than the engine so beyond cleaning out the worst of the muck and checking all the joints it should'nt really make too much difference.

After a long time I have traced my problems to the lift pump - the membrane appears to have de-laminated slightly and seems to have been letting air in - either from the crankcase (more likely) or from outside. I found this out by tywrapping a clothes peg to the top of the manual lift lever to take the pump actuating lever off the camshaft. As I said the tank is higher anyway so the lift pump is not strictly necessary.

As per your problem mine was intermittant - up until an awkward point approaching a windy lee shore when the engine refused to run without being bled almost continuously.

I have a Sadler 26 and found that the stainless steel fuel tank came out fairly easily. In the 26 it is located at the front of the cockpit locker, held in by three stainless studs and nuts. I removed it in order to thoroughly clean it inside. I'm not sure how the S25 compares to an S25 in this respect.

I suggest that you try asking the same question on the Mike Lucas website to increase the chance of finding S25 owners.
