replacing Raymarine ST1000 / 2000+ Tiller Pilot socket

Hi, judging by the price of them, I'm guessing that many have replaced these with properly waterproof 3 pin metal plugs/sockets?
any advice appreciated, thanks.

The plug & socket are Bulgin Buccaneer 6 way , available from CPC online. No need to buy from ££Force4.
