the Raymarine system has all the bells and whistles for a 2005 boat using a C80 set into the woodwork by the chart table. Would like to replace with a similar size unit that will work with the rest of the legacy kit inc radar and fit into the hole left by the c80.

others will have had the same issue - question is, what have they done to solve it? Had it on the previous boat and fitting a modern plotter meant a decent sized bill for the woodwork plus replacing a radar because it was analogue not digi. Plus a gadget to convert data back and forth. EPITA

If it is a Classic C80 then it will have an analogue Pathfinder radar. That radar is not compatible with any current Raymarine plotter.
I had the issue with a C70. Had perspex adapter laser cut for mounting new plotted and updated to quantum radar. Some people keep old plotter and radar as a stand alone radar display only at chart table and add a modern plotter at helm.

That makes sense as many modern plotters have wi fi which allows a tablet to act as a repeater at the chart table

Undoubtedly would be the simplest option but its a bit like patching up old clothes. Sooner or later there is the need to update. Trouble is that there has been a major tec change from analogue radar to digital plus there also is the issue of the C80 being let into the otherwise pristine wood work. Ironically I had exactly the same problem with my previous boat. I ended up with a patched system which worked after a fashion but not always reliably. I also had a big bill ( I think about £500) for some high quality woodwork done by Rustler yachts for fill the C80 void.

On that occasion the boat was a longer distance cruising type. Current boat is a downsize, I am older and poorer and the boat use is more limited. So I was wondering if someone had found a better way forward in the 10 years since i did the same job on the last boat.

The attached photo shows a new panel made for a smaller 5" Standard Horizon plotter and a larger VHF after taking out a larger (and dead) Raymarine C-series and a working but disliked Simrad RD68 radio. As I was putting a new larger plotter at the helm the little 5" SH made a good repeater. Measured the old panel accurately, and had B&Q make the cuts on their big sliding saw. The new panel was a £10-ish chunk of plywood also from B&Q, picking a nice-grained and clean bit to use. Then made new cutouts for instruments etc and varnished with maybe 5-6 coats of gloss and finally some mixed gloss and matt.

Since than I've replaced the SH plotter shown on the photo with a larger one, again making a new panel as before. Just don't have a photo of the current panel.

In answer to the OP re C80 - nothing much new is compatible with your old radar.

I had the same issue and decided in the end to replace the lot and found someone to buy the radar albeit for a song. Have replaced all with Raymarine (Axiom) and am very happy. A couple of things to note. The radome has a much more simple cable so much easier to demount. ( Was advised not to use Bluetooth system for radar).
I insisted on keeping my through hull fitting for the log because it partially closes when swapping the blank in and out. The standard triducer doesn’t fit it so I have a separate depth transducer.
If I get twenty years again out of the system I will be well satisfied!
