Unfortunately Evenstar was damaged in a collision in the mariana about a month ago. (no it wasn't me!)

Damage tally:
All bar 1 railing bases on one side bent. These have been removed, straightened, polished and refitted. Collateral damge inside boat for accessing nuts still needs sorting.
Railings, bent, may strighten or need a new section. Has been roughly straighted for now by 2 fenders on pontoon and a lardy me.
Guard wire. Ends bonded on so had to be cut off. White plastic no longer legal so need stainless both sides. Has rope for now.
Stress cracking about 4 ft long above rub rail.
Smashed saloon window.

I ordered the new glass and seal from a reputable supplier 4 weeks ago with a "2-3 week" lead time. Money was taken at time of order. They are now saying "end of the month". I'm furious. I'm sure supplier has been let donwn by his but even so they won't give a definitive supply date. Nor will they let me speak to the actual source supplier myself.

Today the frame was removed an a piec of perspex sikka'd in so I can use the boat. But I can't do a course like this and I am missing out on bookings.

So does anyone know if there are other sources of such glass? Brown tinted. Toughened not laminated. I can get a template from the other side. The glass is flat. Can people cut from templates and match colour? Ideas please. Channel islands are calling and I can't do that with a perspex window either.

Sorry to hear about all that.

If the glass is flat, not fritted and you have a template, surely there must be 100s of glass suppliers who can do it? Without fritting, and in toughened, it becomes a very non specialist job. People can cut from templates and colour matching cannot be a huge problem I'd guess.

It only becomes a specialist job -where you need someone like Trend- if there is bending or fritting involved.

Or am I missing something?

if flat why not fit bronze laminate?
if you want toughened you have to start with ordinary tinted plate glass, then cut to size and then have it treated to make it toughened.
if the glass as a black boarder you can etch the glass then use a black primer for the boarder(but this is not as good as proper fritting).
if quick fix is required fit tinted laminate.

Thanks for all those suggestions will get on phone today. Interesting that it has to be toughened post cutting. Happy to fit laminate as long as it would look the same as the other panes?
Dont care that ive paid already i would demand a refund as they didnt deliver as promised. And anyway the amount was about 1/2 day of a course fee for the boat.

Glass is likely to be a standard bronze tint. Normally available from stock in 4mm and 6mm thickness.
Cutting to template is not an issue. Getting the glass toughened is more specialist as it requires a furnace.
What is max width and length of the window?

ETA - we can normally turn rouund a piece of toughened glass in 24 hours so unless its a non standard thickness or bespoke tint you really shouldn't be having the long lead time.

Mark,

Was this a typical hit and run scenario as it seems you are doing all the running around and repairs generally by yourself - if the damage was caused in the marina then I would have thought that you could hate @ worst claimed on your insurance policy with no discount % lost on renewal - Sound pretty bad but good luck with the repairs keep us informed - Terry :encouragement:

no not hit and run totally honourable person involved. Going on insurance but managing it myself mitigates cost and ensures people I want to work on my boat do it, so Paul my GRP guy is the only person I would allow to do the stress cracks for example and he is also fitting the window etc.
