Just press the 'test' button, and see how long it takes for the coasty to respond.
Anything over fifteen minutes, and new batteries are required.

They are Lithium batteries and they put a sticker on. Above that, you should test them though common sense suggests that you don't keep doing that when you are in harbour /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It's a bit of a scam. There is no reason why the battery pod could not be user-changeable though all the while none of them do that, which mfr wants to be the first?

What? Mine was 246 to have the batt changed at McMurdo in 2006. I have the 406 GPS.

Mine's a bog standard E3 (no GPS) and I delivered and collected it myself which may have saved a few bob.
