Wonder if anyone has any advice...

I currently have a Nasa Target 2 depth sounder, now disfunctional..

I was going to replace like with like but notice that there are several lower end fish finders available a bit cheaper. eg. eagle cuda 300, garmin ff90

So now i'm wondering whether it might be a better option to replace the nasa unit with one of these.

Comments / advice welcomed

Definitely go the Fishfinder route - gives you all a sounder will, plus an impression of the lie of the seabed and its composition. May even lead you to believe there are fish down there as well!!

I have just done exactly the same, replaced a defective Hummingbird 3D with a cheap Garmin. Works fine and appears more plausible than the built in echo sounder. Can't remember which model, it was about £90!

I mounted the transponder in the engine compartment by sticking it on some vaseline until I got a signal then poured some resin into an upside down margerine tub with the bottom cut out to form a level pad and then just plonked the transponder on it.

An added bonus is that the transponder has a temperature guage which now tells me the temp of my engine compartment. Since I know that my actual temperature guages over read (picked up by the engine survery) I now have more confidence that I'm not boiling my old AD41's
