Replacing deck-flush water cap?

Our water inlet was leaking - badly sealed - and we don't have the tool to open it anyway - and it's old - so I want to replace it.

I can't seem to find a replacement that matches its dimensions. The hose it was connected to would be ideally re-used as it'd be very awkward to replace it - and it's in good condition.

But this (see pictures) old cap has a 40mm O/D hose tail on it. None of those available for sale are that size - they're mostly for 38mm hose which I assume our in-situ can't be?

Surely your hose will squeeze around a 38mm tail if warmed with a heat gun and pressed with a couple of strong jubilee clips?

Yes, it sounds ideal to me, much better than trying to get the old hard hose which is probably 1.5 inches over a 40mm fitting which is 1.575 inches.

The old hose fit perfectly over the 41mm tail (re-measured and it's 1.6", 41mm). It's in an awkward spot so I think it'd be a mighty hard task to heat and squeeze it down to 38mm.

Ahh - I could build up the 38mm with some amalgamating tape or PTFE I suppose. Or something better?

That was my other thought. I think Gorilla make a heavy duty self amalgamating tape.

My usual trick in situations like this is to build up with a section of the correct hose over the tail and heat up the oversized hose to fit over it. It makes for a snug and secure fit but I'm not sure if 38mm hose is available in thin enough wall for your situation (3mm difference equates to 1.5mm wall thickness). Maybe 38mm (1 1/2") flat hose would do the job. Buy a few metres and use the rest for chafe protection on mooring lines, snubber lines, etc as I do ?
