Replacing Control cables

I've a Fairline Carrera with 2 Volvo GLP-D's, ZX sterndrives controlled by a Morse MT3.

My problem is getting the controls of both engines synchronised. Both tickover at the same speed with the cables off but when I connect the cables the stbd engine runs much faster, and there's no adjustment left in the cable to slow it down. Stbd tickover goes from 800 to 1100 and there's quite a clunk when I engage fwd or reverse. Also to get both engines running at the same speed the stbd throttle lever position is considerably further forward of port.

The previous owner had her re-engined and it looks like the two throttle cables are from different manufacturers. I think either the throttle cables are worn (or the wrong length?) or the gear change cable is somehow are affecting the tickover.

My questions are how easy is it to replace both sets of cables (throttle and gear change)? Will I have to take the boat out of the water to replace the gear cables? How can I check what length the cable should be?

Can anyone advise?

TIA

Do a search morse mt3 parts list which will give you the instructions you require

The gear cables will not cause your problem or you would not be selecting neutral correctly

Set the throttle levers on the engine with the cables disconnected to the tick over you require
The cables can be adjusted at both ends so adjust the engine end to suit the engine
Measure and see that both pivots on the cables are the same distance from the end of the cables then connect the control ends

You may get a slight off set on neutral

If you have run out of adjustment at the engine, dissemble the mt head and get some more adjustment that end. find a instruction sheet as well as I have seen more than one incorrectly assembled.

if you are replacing the cables, it is worth the premium for the higher grades, as they are smoother, with less stiction, & play.
