Hi all,
I am looking to replace my old ws608 wind sensor that seems to have died, with the newer ws310 model.

Do I understand correctly the concept here is different than with the ws608? 608 has a backbone cable running up the mast and the sensor is also a terminator. So with ws310 would I have a cable from the sensor connected to the interface and then a drop cable to the T piece?

Can someone please confirm or correct my thinking?

And also is the mast fitting the same or different?

The WS 310 wind pack comes with the Sensor, Mast Head Mount, 20m Mast Cable - think its bespoke not standard N2K and the Interface cable which makes the whole assembly a Drop cable. You don’t have a Terminator for this Instrument You plug it into the Backbone.

I’m sure the mounting is not compatible. It’s a whole replacement.

It’s all well described on the B& G website and there is a dedicated FB page for you to re post this if required. They answer everything. You’ll definitely get an answer or few.

Cheers

The mast cable has similar connectors but not the same as NMEA2k so yes bespoke. It can be cut and N2k field connectors used though, I did this recently as I have breaks in all cables after they enter the boat.

Thank you for that Facebook group. After reading about people's problems with this sensor I am now not so sure if this is the right replacement. Need to do some further search for better alternatives. Has anyone got any suggestions?

What were the issues? Ours does exactly what it’s supposed to do and was an easy setup

So many people describe those sensors failing pretty quickly, either through water ingress or other reasons. Quite disappointing to hear, as so far my B&G kit worked great. I am tempted to stay with ws608 in that case as mine worked for 8 years and only had to replace the bearings once. It is slightly cheaper as well.

Thanks, disappointing to hear. I think I must be banned from the B&G forum on Facebook for pointing out issues with the plotters a few years ago as I can’t access either link above.
