Replacing an Avon\'s valves

I have inherited an old avon inflatable - wooden transom style. Unfortunately it seems to be leaking slowly through the valves, which are old style.

I would like to swop them for the newer style, and so cure the leaking. Is this something that can be done at home, or should I search out someone who can do it professionally? I am in the Fareham area, so if I do need to find someone, any recommendations?

Thank you for any advice.....

Re: Replacing an Avon\'s valves

IIRC the valves on an avon need to be done professionally. I have seen avons and bombards for sale somewhere near Alladins Cave at Bursledon, so suspect they may be able to direct you to the correct place.

many thanks ... just who I wanted to find to repair two leaking valves

Re: Replacing an Avon\'s valves

I have the same or similar Avon.
A hunt around the chandlers should find valves already fixed to round patches which can be glued on using the same method as an ordinary patch, which makes it a DIY job.
Buying the valves without the patch means removing the large plastic hex nut which needs a very expensive tool, or making your own spanner.
If you can't find what I describe have a look at the Polymarine website.

Thank you everyone, for some excellent advice. I really appreciate it. I shall have my Avon back on the water in no time, confidence restored.

Best wishes
