I'm after opinions and if possible experience from anyone who may have done this.
I have to replace the bobstay. It's rod riggig and was bent when i bought the boat; the surveyor included replacement in his list of highly recommended jobs.
My question is; is this possible to do without unstepping the mast? Could I possibly slacken off the backstay and then remove the bobstay without damaging the bowsprit? The Boat is a Hans Christian 43. Has anyone done this? I realise that i could just try slackening the rig and see if the bobstay become loose enough to remove, I'm just after some thoughts before i embark on the job.
Whilst I also plan to withdraw, check and rebed some chainplates and therefore the obvious solution is to unstep the mast and do the whole lot at the same time, doing so will require moving the boat to another marina / yard and all the associated expense.
Also, any recommendations for riggers around the Humber area for for having a new stay made up.
Thanks in advance.
