Replacement Water Tank?

My plastic drinking water tank has started to leak in a couple of places along the original welds (it's made of black plastic panels glued/welded together).

I can't see any holes inside - the water seeps out though some small holes along the line on the joins - I suspect that pins were used to hold the fabrication together and the water seems to be coming out of the holes left by those pins.

Any ideas how to fix?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend someone who could make a replacement, preferably somewhere in the south-east.

I tried Tek Tanks but can't afford them. Not too fussy whether it's stainless steel or another material - it's completely isolated from all other metal in the boat.

Thanks

Think you will find that a SS custom made tank will not be significantly cheaper than Tek Tanks. Your alternatives are to use a standard size/shape from Tek Tanks or Vetus, or a flexible tank from Plastimo or Vetus. You might be able to find a standard size flexible that will go inside your current tank.

There's a place in Fareham that makes made to measure flexible tanks from the food quality version of the material used for hovercraft skirts (which they also make). I will try and find a name.

Hello Jonathan
I do not know if it is of any use but I have a 107 Litre fresh water plastic TEC tank for sale with inlet/outlets etc.
It is only 4 years old and I have re-organised the boat layout since purchasing her two years ago hence I fitted two smaller tanks.
It is very clean in good condition 390mm wx 290mmh x 950mm l
PM me for details and picture.

Regards
Mike

I had a leak in the plastic header tank in my car 2 weeks ago and I took it to a place that repair plastic car bumpers and they fixed it in 2 days and it has not leaked since.

Yo may find one in yellow paged or your local panel beaters may know

The trouble with SS is that, with the best will in the world the welds will end up a different to the body and are a source of corrosion. Our 40-odd year old SS tanks have started to leak (again) and I am prob'ly going to have to bite the bullet and try and lever some plastic tanks in their place.

If they are PVC, then PVC glue is basically a solvent designed to weld the plastic together, but I don't think it works with PU. You could always try a soldering iron.

The plastic concerned is cut from sheets and then glued or welded. It is black plastic, about 10mm thick. Any guess what sort of plastic that might be and therefore whether a particular glue might help?

The tank is almost certainly polyprop' find your local Barkstons or other plastics material suppliers and they will tell you where you can find a guy who will re-weld it possibly on site. Its very very simple
