I had to move a boat about 100 miles, with a dodgy gps. So we pinched a Garmin 152 from another boat and hitched it up to a Ebay £8 transponder lookalike for Garmin. Its about 1.5 inches square and worked fine straight through the cabin roof, so it did not need to be mounted outside. For £8, worth it as a spare

Works for Navman/Northstar as well.

I reported on this earlier in the year for a Navman plotter.

The chart table plotter aerial just sits on top of the plotter, and gives broadly the same sat coverage as the rail mounted original.

On the binnacle plotter I've just taped the thing inside the binnacle and it also works faultlessly.

I did remove the magnets from the bottom of the aerials, undo the four screws and bottom tape, flex base and the magnet pops out.

When I get round to it the rail mounted original will be dismounted and kept as a roaming spare. To be replaced by an AIS antennae.

On my other spare cheap one I took it to bits to see what it was about, reassembled with a smear of silicone grease round grommet, O ring and securing screws and dunked in a glass of water for a week. It also works faultlessly.

To buy one ( or in my case three) just put make and model of plotter and "GPS aerial" into E-bay search and loads pop up.
