Hi,
Has anyone ever had to replace the tap head (i.e. the hot or cold plastic knurled thing you turn the tap on with) on a mixer unit in their galley. I have a 1980 Discus and the cold tap just spins on its mounting unless I take it off and put a few layers of self-amalgamating tape onto the spigot every so often, as the plastic has split inside.

I would really appreciate advice as to where I could buy a replacement if possible.

Many thanks

Similar trouble with a bath tap of similar vintage. That had a hard plastic insert in the tap top which splined onto the spigot. Insert split and then spun on the spline. Araldite sorted it out.

Go to any Plumber's Merchant and replace your "Marine" taps with household ones. Basin mixer valves work a treat, they're just the right size for most galley sinks.

Problem solved

Problem solved - hope the solution will help others...

I found an Oracstar kit for installing a self-cutting mini tap into a 10mm copper pipe. The tap head has a small internal square section which matches the mixer tap valve perfectly. An additional benefit is that the kit obviously provides you with a spare valve of the same size.

Happy days. :)

Try Penquin Engineering on Hayling Island; I just got a replacement shower hose from them that I had trouble sourcing elsewhere.

I had a very unusual and leaking tap on our galley sink. I expected trouble finding a replacement. Penguin had in stock an exact replacement for my 17 year old number.

This shiny new tap made the heads shower look a bit sad, they had an exact replacement of that in stock as well.

Nice chap as well.

Ours is 32 this year. Impressive selection at Penguin, but couldn't see anything to match. Perhaps it's the age. Will certainly look them up again though.
