any cheaper alternatives?
The original fitment is eye-wateringly expensive, to the extent that it's almost worth buying a complete new unit.
I'd assumed the multi directional switch part was a commonly available part from Maplins or the like, but not had any luck finding anything.
It doesn't appear to be possible to get inside the switch to clean up the contacts either.

Any suggestions?

It looks as though the original can do the 4 cardinal points plus 4 diagonals by switching 2 lines on at the same time.
Not sure if th Ebay one can do the diagonals but zi would assume that they are 'nice to haves' rather than diagonals.

Just need to sort out if the originsl switches from + to - on each switch or only the + or -.
If it switches just + or -, I'm not clear why both are fed into the switch unless it is illuminated.

I don't think so. The spotlight has 320 degrees of rotation and 75 degrees of tilt. Logically, there will be 4 contacts, which give left and right rotation, and up and down movement. The eBay joystick would probably work, but is quite large.

I only said that I think that the original switch could select up or down, left or right and also up, left etc. at the same time. Not that the light could.
After checking I'm sure that's what I said!

The joystick I posted says 4 way but seems to only have 2 double N/O switch blocks.

These type of joysticks generally cone in 2 position or 4 position and can have a number of different switch block configurations.

The type that is needed if a 4 position with each position having either a change over type switch block or a Normally open ans a normally closed switch block for each position.

each of the 2 motor (up/down) and (left/right) need to be connected to the common one the 2 opposite switch blocks with +12V on the N/O and -12VDC on the N/C contacts.

This is a better example but this will need the addition of 4 N/C contact blocks to give each position the change over contact arrangement needed to allow change of direction with the motors in the Jabsco searchlight.

How do I know. I had a second one from a boat jumble that would not go up/down left/right due to the motors rusting up. After freeing up it worked and I made new joystick as I describe.

Many thanks all, appreciated.
I don't think I'd be able to make room for the joystick, but will investigate as it's obviously a far cheaper option.
