Can anyone suggest a supplier for replacement motor for 700 watt Lofrans windlass ?
the existing motor has failed and the engineer has had a price of £476 for a new one. It appears to be the same as a car starter motor only difference being the marine price. Does anyone know if car starter motors are compatable ??

Thanks

Yes try getting it repaired, depends what wrong with it. Obviously worh shopping around but I can tell you that I have paid near that trade price for a small Lewmar windlass motor.

Yes I am sure the manufacturers make a nice margin on them, but as they seem to be bespoke there isn't much choice if repairing it isnt feasible.

Since I live just a few miles from their factory, when I wanted to change my windlass barbotin I just went there.
They were very kind, and had no problem to supply me the part directly.
You could try to contact them and ask.
Or I could do that for you if you wish (also arranging the shipment), but not before mid of June, when I'll be back home.

Look in yellow pages for an electric motor rewind shop. They are pretty straight forward to rewind, I would thought about £100 to rewind.

Thanks for the suggestions and Mapism your kind offer of help.

I am down at the boat over the weekend and think the suggestion of a rewind is my best course of action so will bring the motor back and find a local company to have a look.

Cheers
