replacement gas fitting

As I have previously mentioned, I am now the owner of a 1983 Moody 29. I have spent the time since purchase working on a fair amount of refitting - so far, replaced the head lining of the saloon, fitting solar and wind generator, replaced most of the plumbing, installed holding tank and upgraded the loo.

An earlier owner had fitted a gas water heater, which the guys I bought from said had never worked properly. Anyway, I have removed the dodgy heater and am replacing it with a diesel water/air heater.

The gas heater installation included a tee fitting to tap into the gas feed to the cooker. I need to replace the tee with a straight coupler. It's a compression fitting and the pipe appears to be 10mm. I bough a 10mm coupler from Screwfix but it doesn't fit. I'm assuming it's probably an imperial fitting, maybe 3/8", but I don't know if such things exist? Any ideas?

Make sure that the olive is copper. It is possibly an extra as shown in post 2.

Indeed, but but it's quite hard to distinguish between 10mm and 3/8" with a bit of battered copper pipe

If the pipe is so battered that you cannot distinguish between 10mm and 3/8" you'll never make a gas tight joint with a compression fitting.
