Thinking or re-engining. Currently Perkins 4108 on VP 270 drive. Cleopatra 700 hull. Keeping drive, but looking for more power (speed - not requiring super speeds, economy is important, but enough to get up on the hump at least!)

Anyone know what the max I can put through the drive is? Can't seem to find this even by ringing dealers.

Any suggestions as to a suitable (diesel) replacement - preferably lighter, but obviously no bigger in physical (I mean the space occupied by the engine) size.

Any suggestions (apart from flogging the boat!) welcome.

I'd go for the one beginning with "Y" ending in "r" and having "anma" in the middle.

Modern, economical, comes pre-wired & don't cost the earth to maintain.

Take it from a new Volvo owner with withdrawal symptoms; Yanmars run as smooth as sewing machines!

The 4JH3-TE model 75(69cont)hp and probably weighs less (247kg) than your existing motor.

There has been a lot of discussion on engines in the past. The messaging that keeps coming across time and time again is don't buy Volvo.

(I have a Yanmar)

Look at Ford 1.8 marine conversion kits, cheap spare parts (for the engine) and a fair number of engines on low mileage company cars which have been written off can be found. Most expensive part of the kit will be the Bowman manifold/heat exchanger. (300 to £400 ish) Only problem is that most Ford will have turbos so you do need to speak to Lancing marine and their prices for the parts you need will be competitive.

not cheeky at all, try transit 2.5 direct inj, turbo if you like. all parts cheap, to keepit cheaper raw water cool. spend the extra saved on a spare engine, just in case, but it should be fine.

not a keen fan of the xld18 ford as it has a weak bottom end if neglected, and the older ones had cambelt problems, we always had problems with them in the p100 td pick ups. but later mondeo engines ok, only problem would be cooling... costs loads!.

lancings or bob knowles marine are the boys to talk to,

ahh say what you like.... what's done is done!

I have a Mazda td 135 hp
4 cylinder 3.5 . Fitted to my 110 Landover
They can be normally aspirated or turbo
lt its small compact and economical to run .The company that supply em are the main importers from South Africa. Parts are about the same cost as normal run of the mill engines.
If I were thinking of fitting another engine to a boat then I'd put one of these in !!
But then I have not found another engine to compare with this so I would say that wouldn't I.
Cheers

Cast iron all cast iron
I saw one recently in a rang rover the whole lot £5oo.oo
I was skint at the time or I'd have snapped it up.
The firm that does them was in Suffolk but now at Ruskinton just up the road from Sleaford.
No cam belts , real gears !!
Injection side is standard stuff so available at Lucas agents
Filters get any where to .
Cheers
