Just spoke to a really helpful guy at Aquafax about parts for the Johnson raw water pump on my Volvo MD2030B. I was condidering buying a complete pump byt apparently Volvo are putting increasing pressure on manufacturers like Johnson to stop supplying engine specific parts to retailers thereby forcing us all to go to the engine dealer. He said Yanmar are 'even worse'.

The basic F4B-9 pump used on the MD2030B is used on loads of engines but the casting is tooled and machined for specific engines. So he can supply all the parts but not the entire pump.

He did say though that there is a variant of the F4B-9 which is designed to be adaptable to a number of engines. Unfortunately he didn't know if the shaft would take the cog drive on my engine. Anyone know? BTW the price of the generic pump is £74.85 which gives an indication of the true cost of these things! The cheapest price on the Volvo part is £188.54 /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Have you tried ASAP Supplies Ltd in Beccles, Norfolk (Suffolk?). I recently bought a complete Johnson water pump for my BUKH engine from them

What parts are you looking for. Bearings and seals can be obtained from any bearing supplies gaskets can be made from gasket materal from any moror factor.

The only normal specific spare is the rubber impeller and I have found the common ones are the same for Jabsco and Johnson.

Try jabscoshop.com for spares

Roger,

I have spare seals which I will fit this w/e. However there's a fair chance that the shaft will need replacing too. It seems that the shaft is Volvo specific as well since it is a gear driven pump and, surprise, surprise, costs only slightly less than a new pump.

I'm surprised Jabsco aren't making compatible pumps. They could undercurt volvo and make a bomb. Could they be legally prevented from doing so?

I just replaced my MD2020B water pump, ended up buying Volvo-badged from Keypart. Shaft was knackered as well as the seal, and this after only 500 hours! Went all round the houses with Jabsco and Johnson but just could not be certain of total compatibility. If either of those companies does supply the identical article then it would be great if someone came up with the part numbers.

The raw water pump on my faryman generator was gear driven but the shaft was standard.

Dont know where you are but Cleghorn in in Letchworth and have been there and are very helpfull
