I’m looking for recommendations for a replacement carburettor for a 3.5hp 2-stroke outboard.
The original Mariner engine came with a Mikuni carburettor which is no longer available but there are many generic carb’s sold which claim to be replacements including a cheap one I bought but was rubbish.

Has anyone a spare carb or successfully found an after-market replacement they can recommend?

It sounds like you were unlucky with your generic carburettor purchase.
I bought a carb off Ebay for my lawn tractor which worked fine. Cost was about 1/4 of the cost of a re-build kit from an official source.
Might be worth trying this outfit?

I have bought a generic replacement carb for my Tohatsu 3.5 2-stroke, which I believe is a very similar engine. I haven't got round to fitting it yet, and your post has made me a bit nervous! In what way was it rubbish?Cheers.

Thanks Dan, that’s reassuring.

R.Ems The engine starts and idles with the original carb but won’t even start with the new carb as no fuel is aspirated. Also, the throttle slider was coarse and didn’t move smoothly and a lip on the flange needed filing off to allow it to seal onto the engine.
If your replacment works, please share the details of what you used.
