Is it possible to have an extra screen connected to a SH chart plotter? I know it has been discussed whether to position the thing in the Cockpit or at the chart table, both would really be preferable.
If they take Cmp max charts you can link 2 together
its just a simple NEMA to NEMA connection then you will have to speak to Cmap and get a mirror card - this will enable your charts on both units and both units to communicate
I'm in the same boat (sorry for the pun!) as portogeezer, looking for two connected plotters but not wanting to go to big stuff like Raymarine or expensive stuff like Simrad.
Surely they would need to be configured in some sort of Master - Slave arrangement, or they will each be generating NMEA data themselves at the same time as receiving from the other. Similarly, GPS reception would be duplicated which may cause problems..../forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
You've confirmed my understanding, however the original question could be read another way. ie is it possible to connect an external VDU of some sort, so you could have the plotter in the cockpit and see the display at the chart table?
I strongly suspect not, but worth asking the question.
you're right, an external VDU is going to cost you more than a chart plotter. I was suggesting you could put the plotter in the cockpit and just the monitor at the chart table, so a cheap one would work.
However, this is likely to be totally irrelevant because you wont be able to get a video signal out of the SH plotter anyway.
