I'm looking for a repeater for my Garmin 128.

I don't need all the graphics but just the essentials that you would find on the GOTO page ie SOG, bearing, distance, course, etc etc.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

Had a boat with 128 mounted at steering position in wheelhouse.Aquired a second bracket for the unit and fitted it at the outside helm position.Ran cables to both brackets and simply moved the unit depending on where I was steering from.

I have a Clipper Gps repeater connected to my 128. Works perfectly.
Try allGadgets.co.uk. I bought mine for around £95.

Why bother with a repeater, just get another GPS, its almost as cheap and provides backup!

I too have the Clipper repeater - it is an excellent and cheap bit of kit. Should do the trick for what you want.

We have a Silva repeater on our 128 and it works great.

We chose the Silva as it appeared to be the only cheap one to give a MOB function.

Clipper repeater works brilliantly, cheap and easy to install.

The idea of a second GPS seems like a good one - until you consider that you would have to put every waypoint in twice.

Many thanks for all your help - one small thing - my 128 NMEA is already connected to the radar.

Can it be connected to the repeater as well?

Cheers

Yes - the NMEA will drive up to four devices. My Garmin 128 drives my Silva Star repeater and a Raymarine 2000+ Autohelm.

My vote on a repeater would be Silva Star - it has it's own internal MOB facility which is very valuable in the cockpit. It also always displays COG and SOG - I believe the Clipper unit will only do this if the GPS is following a route or has been told to go to a Waypoint.
