I need to repair some of the stitching on my sprayhood, does anyone know which type of thread would be best?

While it's off the boat I'm thinking about fitting a couple of additional clear panels, any ideas about which type of clear 'plastic' is best?

Polyester thread, and use the heaviest you can handle in your machine - you really need a walking foot industrial to sew it, using 20 weight thread. My domestic can only manage 40 weight, but it does at a pinch.

For the clears, the trimmers here use .75mm clear PVC - it does discolour / go hazy over time, but we're in a high sunlight zone, and practically everything suffers from UV here.

Yes, Bonded Polyester is best as it doesn't suffer from UV degradation, but some trimmers use nylon thread which seems to work OK in our sunlight levels. Get the proper clear plastic from someone like Pointnorth - who also do thread in small reels. http://www.pointnorth.co.uk
How big are the extra panels? - I have some offcuts when I renewed my plastic earlier this year - PM me if you are interested.

David, I have had two repairs carried out (very well, including lots of stitching) on my spray hood, at a reasonable cost by Jane Clout ("sails, canvas, upholstery") she operates from home at 14 Adelaide Square, Shoreham-by-Sea, BN43 6LN, 01273 452481 and 077483 58885.

Just had mine repaired in fairoak near southampton by a lady who repairs tents and she replaces windows too!

Her name or her trading name is E.P.Perkins she will be in the phone book if not email me.

By the way she only charged me 20 quid she does not rip you off like the boaty people ...(dont tell her its cheap compared to the others)

done an excellent job too
