Hello to everybody! I'm from Italy on the coast of Central Adratic Sea. I own a 34 feet sail boat built in the late 70's. Some months ago I realized that my NAVMAN Multi 3100 started to break down as digits began to fade or disappear. After a keyword search on the internet I came upon videos and forums dealing with my same problem most of them from enghlish speaking countries. I realized with great relief that repairing a NAVMAN device was a quite easy and cheap operation, once you get the right elastomer connector to replace the very vulnerable flat cable. My first problem was to find an electronic supplier which would deliver in Italy the LCD display to be used as "donor" of the connector. Many of them were from the USA (very high delivery cost) or from UK (delivery in UK only). Eventually I found Distrelec which operates from Switzerland, and delivers at reasonable spedition costs to all over UE and beyond. The second problem was to find the right "donor". I think the most important feature is the height of the elastomer. Following the suggestion of one blogger I ordered a Display Electronik Gmbh LCD module coded N27AZ, expected to have two zebra strip 8mm high. After opening it I realized the elastomer was between 6 to 7 mm high. So, before starting to operate on the NAVMAN Multi 3100, I'd like to read about someone else experience, so that I can decide whether to buy a greater LCD module or to use the smaller elastomer. I thank in advance all the people that would share their experiences.
