I'd always thought my companionway step was teak - but after my brother in law tripped up and took some veneer off the front edge I realised that it was ply underneath.

I think if I try to take the step out the whole lot will break up and so will need replacing, and trying to inlay a piece will be difficult with the ply.

Would be grateful to know if anyone has had similar problems.

I don't know if I can repair it or whether I need to replace it. Was thinking about replacing the step with Tek-Dek or something but not sure how expensive that would be.

any thoughts or advice would be welcome

thanks
Frank

You should be able to get veneer in small quantities from a quality handcraft shop...look for Marquetry supplies. It can be repaired using a modelling knife if done with care.
