Reoving \'glassed in\' compass

I have a NASA compass which has been glassed into my hull. Due to a bit of modifications, I need to move the compass to another area of the boat - is there any way of getting the compass off the hull after it has been glassed in?

Does the job look well done, i.e. can you easily see the join between the original hull glass and the newer glass used to fix the compass.

You may get lucky and it will just tear away with a little help from a sharp chisel.

Otherwise you might be able to carefully cut away with a junior hacksaw or a dremel?

From experience, it is very unlikely that you will damage the hull material, though if you do it should be easy enough to clean away all remnants of the compass fixing and glass in a couple of layers to seal the area once you have finished.

Cross your fingers that the guy who fitted the compass did not know what he was doing /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

G'day Craig,

Avoid grinding if you can, messy and not good for you or the environment.

A half inch chisel, a small hammer and a lot of patience will do the trick.
