Hello. . .we are looking to rent somewhere in poole as we are relocating and waiting for our house purchase to complete. . . someone mentioned to us the idea of 'boat sitting' for yachts/boats in the marina during the winter period. . . is this something that happens and if so where can we find out about it. your help would be greatly appreciated!!

I know a fellow who has a huge old leaky yacht that needs to be occupied all the time and he lets people 'camp' on board provided they keep the bilges dry, etc. Unfortunately, it is in the south of Spain but the principle holds good...I don't suppose that you will find the owner of a new boat wishing to have the extra wear and tear of a 'sitter' but it might suit the owner of an older boat, maybe not in a marina but on moorings. That said, if you want to get in touch with owners of marina boats, put a notice around the showers/toilets - the type of ad with little tear off phone numbers works well. Pop into the marinas and see what others do. As for the non-marina boats, can't help in that area, I'm afraid. You could try talking to the chandleries - they might know of an owner who would be glad to have you aboard. Good luck.
