Anybody had any good/bad experiences when it comes to obtaining new upholstery in the Chichester area? I'm going to need new foam mattresses with a mixture of vinyl and soft coverings. Budget is a big factor but I don't want it to look DIY! It's a for a four berth 28ft yacht. Any advice gratefully received!

I once had a quote from C&J and if you're on a budget my experience would suggest you look elsewhere

[/ QUOTE ] OK then there is someone next to one of the (Texaco ?) filling stations on the westbound side of the Chichester bypass. Might be worth a try. C&J were not expensive when they started out but did a good job, stifled all the competition and I guess can now charge top dollar. Hopefully they still do a good job

C&J Are very good craftsmen, however they are probably expensive. They have given us great service with 2 vessels. I understand they are now a. expensive & b. have a long waiting list, which is testament to their good work.
It is not beyond the calpabilities of a moderate seamstress to make covers for a boat. The 'foam mattresses' if they need replacing should not be difficult. It all depends on how much you want to do yourself. Cost it out, ask for quotes for the complete job. It's not always obvious if the work is 'home made'.
Last year we saw our old boat which my wife had recovered all the interior cushions, including covering the buttons, it was 10 years down the line & they still looked like 'new'. Sometimes it's more cost effective to 'do it yourself'.
However if it's not possible we'd highly reccommend C & J.
Good luck.

Have you looked at the caravan trade? We used the Caravan and Boat Seat Cover Centre based in Bristol www.cbscc.co.uk. But there will be others along the South Coast.
We renewed all the cushions, foam and covers on our 34 foot yacht over the last two years.
Vee Berth Two Cushions about £350
Saloon "Two and Half" settees equated to 5 cushions plus 8 backs about £900. Just recently two long cockpit cushions in vinyl £275.
Considered DIY but in reality the expensive bit is the foam and the material, make-up charges seemed pretty reasonable.

Hope this helps.

The company by the texaco garage is cover 2 cover. We use a company called Lucy's, pauline on 023 9235 2549 or 0239 2264 241. We have used them for a number of one off jobs and I used them for my own boat, 1 complete forepeak, 2 bench seats with end cushions and full backs and 1 quaterberth for sub £900 on a 30ft yacht, this included them measuring up, making the patterns, new high quality 4" foam.

I can not reccomend them highly enough. we alsu use cover 2 cover but they are always busy so cannot fit is rush jobs to quickly
