My old pal Lieutenant Rene Tremblere of the French Navy (Rtd) has just dropped me a line and would like to be remembered to his friends here.
He still enjoys standing by the quay in the evenings with the old men of the town, drinking pastis and still sails his beautiful barque Surcouf

Re: I think I know him

My aunt Dolly (Kerr) - a cook on a trawler out of Brixham - had a relationship with him which spawned my cousin, Wayne. She never got over her love for Rene, never married and, in the end, Wayne took her name.

Might one inquire whether the good French Lieutenant is once again resident in his rustic Breton cottage, following his cultural exchange tour of the Polaris base on the Upper Reaches of the Clyde? Or is he perhaps now being tossed on the surrounding rough Home Trade waters?

Whatever, I am sure that he and all his fellow 'Sans Culottes' - graduates of L'Ecole Navale at Poulmi'c - will continue to appreciate the oft-extended hand of friendship from his brother-in-arms across the sea.
