Can anything be done to stop those damned Renault car advertisements that keep popping up on my computor screen when I am perusing these forums ? They irritate me so much that I wouild never buy one of those cars. So much for the power of advertising, when the ads turn customers off.

There was a thread about this not so long ago. The answer is yes; there's a software called web washer (' don't know the URL but a search on the net should find it easily enough). However, I found it rather slowed my browser, although that may have been a subjective reaction.
Hope this helps.

Pop-up stopper....

.....is freeware from Panicware.com

The trouble is that it not only stops pop-up's, it also seems to stop links that open up a new window. Unless Ive not set the thing up properly!

Norton Personal Firewall has very good ad blocking. I never see any ads on this site, though I used to. You can configure it to get rid of difficult ones too, by opening up a kind of trash can and dragging ads into it. Then the firewall analyses the ad and blocks it for the future. And if you're not using a firewall, you should in case some toe rag scans your ports or gets a trojan onto your machine.

Re: Pop-up stopper....

You can temporarily disable it by holding the Shift or Ctrl key down as you click - this allows a new screen to open. Alternatively, if you can see the icon in your tray by the clock, double click it to change the red cross to grey (I think - it's a bit small) then it is disabled.

You can adjust 'Preferences' by right clicking on the icon. Right clicking also allows you to access the help page.
