removing sikaflex from car seat?!

My dad helped me to replace a seacock at the weekend and somehow got sikaflex 291 on the back of his shirt & then inadvertently plastered it over his car seat

any advice on how to remove it please?

without telling me he already tried white spirits, petrol, nail varnish remover etc so i suspect it's too late

Did you try meths? Works a treat on soft Sika.

I think once it has gone off, you've had it. I have had success in the past with parafin or mineral spirits, but only before it had cured at all.

acetone will remove the colour from the seat

freeze it with chewing gum remover.

Buy a set of seat covers. Any attempts to remove it once it has cured is either a waste of time, will remove the colour as Talbot says, or will physically damage the fabric.

Industrial wipes from Makro work for me, though it hadn't fully cured.

Long shot but not very expensive and relatively safe, Swafega Redbox handwipes, I've just dobbed a bit of sika onto a cloth and will let it set and let you know if it works.

They do work really well on unset Sikaflex though.

Let sikaflex dry and sadly the Swafega Red box wipes failed to remove it.

Reckon the only thing that will get rid of cured Sikaflex is a mechanical solution, try a very fine thin scalpel blade or cheese wire maybe

Don't laugh, try baby wipes, they seem to remove a huge number of different types of gloopy stuff from hands, materials etc.

Sikaflex sell a thinner/remover product though not sure if it works on cured stuff. I know you can buy silicone removal stuff for cured silicon so maybe there is an equivalent for polyurethane?

You might do well to ask a professional car trimmer for their advice. If the seat needs to be repaired professionally it might not be as expensive as you think. I once bought an XR3i (yes I know) which was quite new but cheapish. Previous owner had a large dog which had torn quite a bit of the interior fabric. I had various bits retrimmed for less than £100 if I remember. It was in the 80's though!
