Does anyone have any tips on how to remove rusty steel bolts? The problem is that, having swollen with rust, they grip the surrounding wood exceedingly well. Much too well! So far I've beaten them out with patience and a lump hammer - at about 150 blows per bolt.

if you have access to one.. use a pnuematic chisel (like the ones wot they use in bodyshops) sometimes called a zip gun.

and you'll need a flat punch type tool to fit it.

failing that it's back to hittin' it wiv an 'ammer!

regards, steve.

Steve, that's a good idea. I can see it working. If pile drivers can sink piles down by vibration then the same should be effective for bolts. Thanks, Stuart
