removing rubbing strakes

I'm thinking of removing these...one on each side..... rather than repair them prior to painting the hull... why are they fitted anyway?? There's many a boat without any fitted '
I think i have a standard aquafibre 30 hull and believe there are variations that have none fitted in the first place........ any considered thoughts would be much appreciated

easier to repair or replace than a ding in the fibreglass.

sometimes they hide a deck and hull joint which is the case on my yacht but they dont protect the topsides as there is alot of tumble home in my hull. i am in process of re sealing the new ones the past owner fitted,just more bolt holes in the hull for water to work its way in.
