thanks to the collapse of a certain well known brokerage, I now have a brand new zodiac tender daubed with the name of a boat I paid for but which has subsequently been sold to someone else - what can I use to get the name removed in readiness for remarking with a new name??

I would try acetone, but very gingerly, because it probably does no good to the tender either. There are stain removers (in the washing soda section of your local supermarket) which remove the ink, too.

Old After shave ... you know the rubbish some get for xmas that sits in back of cabinet waiting for a job !! That get's it off most things ... but with fabrics - you will nearly always have a residual stain left ... or outline.

mask out a area to enclose old name paint same colour as hull used a different colour for name, but use the aproved paints for the material. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On a white board, when some twit has used the wrong pen, simply scribbling over the permanent stuff with a normal whiteboard marker clears it off.

Not convinced that is the best way forward on a tender though.

The solvent in these inks is usually alcohol, so you will probably remove it with meths, or as SBC said, crap aftershave, it too is alcohol based, you could use a good malt, but the piss heads on here, would probably have apoplexy! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pencil eraser... one of those soft ones like Staedtler make that come in a blue/white cardboard wrapping that covers half of the rubber.
It worked on my chart table after a visiting youngster had drawn all their drawings on thin paper with a permanent marker... after we'd given them a crayon! Bright green permanent marker all over the varnished table.
Thinners, petrol etc had all been tried to no avail. although I agree with the above comment about rubbing the permanent mark off a whiteboard by scribbling over with the correct whiteboard pen, then wiping off.

Uses a lot of the eraser though - works getting permanent marker pen off plastic surfaces aswell - but probably easier to call new boat same name or paint a white square over all of it...

If you can not remove , If you can't beat it join it ...simply write in same coloured marker 'Not Stolen From' put a line through it and write now tender too ....... (your new boat name ) disguinshable and less appealing to a thief ? ...maybe /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif .

Acetone can be effective but use sparingly and wash off immediatley after use. Do NOT be tempted to give the dink an all over Acetone wash and brush up like I did. Looked great at first but ended up a soggy mess that oozed goo for months and eventually looked like a chocolate cake in a heatwave.

Don't use acetone on PVC fabrics

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed. Or aromatic hydrocarbons suuch as toluene.

Lots of good advice - I'll try the old aftershave first as there's a few bottles of the stuff lurking at the back of the bathroom cabinet!! thanks to all,
