I have searched the archives and cannot find any references to this, but I'm sure there would be some good advice in there.

Are there any good cheap remedies to removing the corrosion from the grommets in my mainsail and how can I prevent it reoccuring?

Thanks for all the good advice I have received thus far.

Re: Removing corrosion from sail grommets and clews.

When I was a kid, not that long ago, I used to be very proud of my bike, polishing and cleaning. Invariably with older chromed brightwork rust spots would start to show through. The thing that worked for me then was brasso (brass polisher).

Ask any car panel expert and they will tell you once rust starts cut out and renew, all the anti rust potions are only a stop gap.

It may be easier and better in the long run to go up a size with your grommets and get some decent 316 SS units fitted. Stamping over grommets is not that difficult, but you may have to sew the news ones in as well, depending how the sail maker has chosen to fit them.

hope this helps.....
