The hull to my yacht received several scratches and scrapes by another boat
whilst the owner took the liberty of robbing the inventory.

I have thought about doing a paint job myself and have been looking at
International Brightside and appropriate undercoats. Are these paints easy
to apply to small areas? Several scratches may also need filling too before
painting. What product is advisable here? The main problem is that the hull
is 30 years old and red, so is slightly faded.

lowish quality picture can be seen here;

Has anyone tried a similar job or should I just leave it to a professional?

Also can I make you aware that the robbery took place on a swinging mooring
in Portsmouth Harbour so extra caution maybe needed with regards to security
in the area.

I can't recommend International Brightsides highly enough. Fantastic paint - sticks like s**t to a blanket - and levels itself to a pefect finish. I've used it on my West 11 and even with constant wear it has remained like new, I think your main problems will be colour matching and feathering in the edges.

Interested to know where your boat was broken into. I heard several boats got "done" on Spider Lake a month or so ago-was your one of these or have you been robbed since?

From the photograph, it appears it may be gelcoat - is this the case?
If it is gelcoat, then I'd repair with gelcoat, which will provide you with the filler at the same time. Note that gelcoat is air-inhibited, and if you go that route, you'll need to cover with cling film, or spray with wax to achieve a cure.

Robbieg:

It happened at the end of last year. Been having "fun" with the insurance company for the last few months which is why this has not been sorted yet. We were broken into at WicoMarine, up inside Portsmouth. Apparently around that time there were others "done".

Best part is they stole a new but registered EPIRB which will be zero use to anyone else. I hope someone tries to register it again......
