I am in the process of giving my 42 year old SeaKing, Spindella, some TLC and have stripped my transom.. there are black patches just above the waterline where the previous varnish had deteriorated.
I've heard about oxylic acid as a 'wood restorer' but wondered if it's still available?
Any other methods of getting rid of the black patches would be appreciated! The rest of the mahogany transom is beautifully coloured and it seems a shame to leave the patches..

Usually works well, also takes out rust marks from sails. Use as prescribed - I get mine from a friendly local chemist- around £5-6 for 500gms post paid.

Not sure, I thought I'd traced pretty much her full history, have been in touch with a couple of ex owners, Bernard doesn't ring a bell, but I'm sure there's only one Spindella so if you can fill me in that'd be great..
In Rye, East Sussex, bought her here 10 years ago, have lived aboard for 8.. all my records are on the boat and she's on the hard, I'm staying aboard a friend's GK29, and it's too late to go up and get them now..
Keep in touch and I can email some photos if Bernard is interested!
If it is the same boat, which I'm sure it must be I'll be glad to hear his experiences.. know she's been to the Med and back twice in her life.. not bad for a 'creek crawler' from Leigh-on-sea'!

I bothered chemists far and wide and they all looked at me with a blank stare.

Yes, but that was in Cumbria where they still point at aeroplanes /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

One of the chemists was Amish and he did say
"Oh no, sorry, we don't have yet any more the ancient remedies without the sight of Our Lord. Have you yet made trial at Lowestoft?"

Thanks to Lakesailor and tranona for the recommendation to the agwoodcare site, I'll try my local chemist for a smaller amount but if they 'stare at me blankly' will go for the kg..
Apologies if my innocent question has started a verbal 'inter-county' war!!

Lowestoft just happens to be the location of the Worlds Premier Boatbuilding College which I am attending on day release from my home port of Liverpool.

The originator of the 'pointing at aeroplanes' jibe was Clarkson when he reflected that Lotus cars were built in Norfolk, a county where they.........etc.'

But I guess some of our readers suffer from excessive wedgies up their bottoms and cannot tell a jibe from a jape from a joke from an insult. Hey ho.
