Removing an AD41 (maybe)!

If it is a Volvo Penta 280/290 'Swedish Drive' then the alignment is not that critical if you are taking the flywheel housing and block in one assemblyand lift it out at an angle method. There are four flats on the flywheel housing which should be equidistant from the transsom shield when you pop it back in and line it all up. Not of course a problem if you adopt the flywheel housing off the block method.

Kerching!....thanks ;)

We did this on our last boat, a Fairline Targa 35. I posted the tale on here...

As you can see we had very little space at the front of the engines and had to start angling them almost as soon as we inched them forward. Trick is to have a fixed chain/strop on the front and a block on the rear so in effect you are lowering the back as the engine lifts as opposed to lifting the front......if that makes sense!

On the alignment issue we simply replaced as it was i.e.. didn't change the mountings and refitted in the same position. It all went back together perfectly.

Wow!....that made for an interesting read over my morning coffee Greg and just the sort of thread I was looking for, you did a superb job and it's gone a long way to inspire me, not sure I can achieve half as good a result as you did though!
Many thanks for the help.....Rob.

You're welcome Rob. It was quite a job but it occupied the winter months and was very satisfying. Couldn't have done it without the help of a very good mate

Update!
Pleased to say removed the outdrive and engine today, used the method to tilt the engine as suggested by Greg in the link on this thread, quite easy infact.
Next a bilge tidy up and paint, I'll cover that in my Relcraft refurb thread though.
Thanks to all for the hints and tips.
Rob.
