My Airmar through hull depth sounder has died. How best to extract it from the hull? No doubt it is sealed in with Sika or similar. Is there a technique or is it brute force?
Interesting, didn't know that was possible, maybe mine is like that too. Thanks. On mine I just unscrew the top fitting and pull the depth sounder out of the through hull and replace it with a blanking thingi.
I believe that the depth sounder in my boat is sealed in to the hull, I intend replacing it when next ashore. I am asking specifically as to how the currently installed unit is removed. It is not clear exactly what you are asking. A depth sounder is usually sealed into the hull, e.g. with Sikaflex. This can only be removed ashore. A dual Airmar with speed and depth can be withdrawn from its housing afloat, replaced with a blank allowing a change of unit. Some depth sounders may do the same, not sure.
