My Mariner 2T 5hp has a lock to stop the pull cord being pulled in gear. (In gear lockout?)

I'm considering removing the whole mechanism, the last thing I want are additional ways to stop my OB starting.

Apart from the safety concern of my 5hp engine accidentally putting my bilge keeler on the plane on starting is there any other reason for it that I'm missing?

My Evinrude does not have an "in gear lock out"

But it has a an interlock with the throttle which prevents it being started at more than a fast idle.

Depending on age it may have an automatic tilt lock when in reverse.

Yes, as it happens, it does so not a concern but that's exactly the kind of issue I feared overlooking so big thanks to RunAgroundHard for thinking along the right lines.
